Have you wanted to create a gallery wall in your home and have been overwhelmed by the process? I used to feel the same way, but then I came up with a simple idea to make gallery walls a breeze.
There are two challenges to creating a gallery wall: designing and hanging. Here's how I conquered those hurdles.
The Design Challenge:
My husband recently asked for a gallery wall of my prints in his office. The space was huge, about 12 feet by 5 feet. The task seemed daunting until I started planning.
First of all, I created a blank file in Photoshop at that size. I knew most of the print sizes I planned to use, so I made rectangles in the correct sizes and proportions and then played around with a design.
Once I had a design I liked, I went through my prints and chose ones that fit those sizes and worked well together. I added them to the Photoshop file to make sure that I'd like the layout once the prints were on the wall. Design complete.
Hanging the Gallery Wall
To me the hardest part of a gallery wall is hanging it up evenly and neatly. To make hanging it easy, I measured the back of each canvas to see where the hanging hardware would land. Then I went back to my Photoshop file.
Using my measurements, I added a dot to each rectangle to indicate where I should drive the screw for that particular print.
Once I had all the dots added, I printed the layout with the rectangles and dots onto a large roll of paper at actual size.
I brought the printout to my husband's office and then we hung it on the wall. We took our time, making sure it was level and in the right location.
Then I started driving screws into the dots.
Once I had all the screws in, I ripped the paper down and the screws were in the wall in their correct places.
The Easy (and Fun) Part
Once the paper was down, it took just a couple minutes to hang the canvas prints onto the screws according to my layout. It came out perfectly. I didn't have to reposition a single screw!

I'd love to help you with your gallery wall, too. I routinely help my customers plan their gallery walls, but I'm excited to announce that I'll now be offering the printed guides for gallery walls, too. Check out the details here.
You can simply send me photos of the artwork, pictures or keepsakes you'd like to include with measurements and I'll create a layout and a printed guide for you. If you purchase four or more canvas prints from me for a gallery wall I will give you the printed guide free of charge.
What pictures or keepsakes would you put in your gallery wall?
